How much should a wedding DJ cost in Sri Lanka?
What goes into a quote, how to tell a fair one from a bad one, and when renting the gear is the better answer.

A wedding DJ quote is really three things bundled together: the person's time, the equipment, and the travel. Quotes differ mostly because those three are split differently — not because one DJ is three times better than another. Ask which of the three you are paying for.
What the market looks like
For scale rather than a quote: booking platforms listing Sri Lankan wedding DJs put the typical range at roughly USD 50 to 180 per hour, which lands most full-evening bookings somewhere between USD 200 and 720. Local providers publish DJ packages starting around Rs 20,000. Those are other people's published figures, not ours.
What should be in the quote
- —How many hours, and when the clock starts — setup or first song
- —What equipment is included, and whether lighting is separate
- —Whether microphones for speeches are included
- —Travel, and whether an overnight stay is needed for an out-of-Colombo venue
- —What happens if equipment fails — is there a backup
How to tell a fair quote from a bad one
A fair quote itemises. A bad one gives a single number and gets vague when you ask what is inside it. That is not about honesty so much as planning — someone who has not itemised it has not thought about your specific night.
When renting the gear is the better answer
If someone in your party genuinely wants to run the music, hiring the equipment costs less than hiring a performer, and you keep control of the playlist. If nobody wants that job, hire a DJ — a wedding is a bad night to discover the music is nobody's responsibility.
